Purple light bathed me the evening I was out on the evaporated lake bed shooting the 'black smokers', the unique-in-the-world naturally-formed pinnacles found only here.
Actually, that's not entirely true - they're found in the oceans along oceanic rifts in several places on the globe. This is the only place in the world, however where they're found on land. Due to the African continent being tectonically ripped in two, Djibouti and indeed the entire African Rift Valley are being thrusted up and apart, which pushed this former seabed upwards out of the water. More can be found on Black Smokers and Hydrothermal vents here.
