Rob > A Wauro Indian girl sells mangos from a makeshift dock along a side channel of the river.

Location: Orinoco River Delta, Venezuela

Lens used: 100-400mm f4.5-5.6 IS
Rob > European tourists encountering the jungle. (Left to right, these pairs are Dutch, Norwegian and Flemish). We were all in a small boat trawling narrow waterways at night looking for critters. We found a small snake on a branch. As I was sitting up front, cross-legged on the bow, I was in position to click the looks on everybody's face when we brought the snake on board.

Technically, one could pick this picture apart. I know that I need to work on my pitch-black/flash photography. But I posted it 'cause it's fun and it's the type of photo I probably wouldn't have ever shot had the circumstances been different.

Rob > Taken while standing in the queue to board this ship.

The foreground light on the rocks is coming from fluorescents overhead hanging from a covered walkway that isn't in the shot. The ship illumination is from the parking lot lights behind me. And the sunset...well, I think we all know where that comes from.

This is one of my favorites from this trip.

Location: Puerto La Cruz, Venezuela

Lens used: 10-22mm f3.5-4.5
Rob > This was sunrise as seen from the small river beach in front of where we slept near the base of Angel Falls.

I like the layered aspect of this shot, especially with the silhouetted jungle in the foreground - it makes it look like I was being intrepid.

Rob > The city's main cathedral had just undergone a complete renovation and looked great. However, as is normal for me and churches, I never did go inside.

Location: Cuidad Bolivar, Venezuela

Lens used: 10-22mm f3.5-4.5
Rob > By using a narrow aperture, I was able to slow down the shutter enough to blur the passing car. I thought that made for a nice foreground for the Hugo Chavez political banner behind.

Location: Coro, Venezuela

Lens used: 10-22mm f3.5-4.5
Rob > Possessing probably the coolest beach I've ever seen, Canaima is a great little village/town. Most people I met seemed to feel the same way, which was somewhat surprising given that the town's raison d'ĂȘtre is tourism - Canaima is the base for visiting the nearby Angel Falls.

Though the three palms growing just off the beach with the powerful waterfalls as backdrop have graced many a photograph and guidebook, I thought my take on it kinda interesting - these guys were kicking around a football as a heavy rain storm passed overhead. The rain had just eased and I had just emerged from the protection of a covered awning, when I saw this guy running and jumping for the ball.
