As tourism is not very well developed in Djibouti, outside of the capital city nearly the only accommodation options are in 'Campement Touristiques' (tourist camps). Basic is the name of the game at these places, though they're generally better than sleeping on the side of the road. They're usually located close to areas and things of interest - for example, Lac Abbé had three separate camps to accommodate visitors, the majority of which visit during the cooler winter time. My little entourage and I were the only ones here that evening.
This is a 6-shot panorama stitched together in CS3.

Actually, that's not entirely true - they're found in the oceans along oceanic rifts in several places on the globe. This is the only place in the world, however where they're found on land. Due to the African continent being tectonically ripped in two, Djibouti and indeed the entire African Rift Valley are being thrusted up and apart, which pushed this former seabed upwards out of the water. More can be found on Black Smokers and Hydrothermal vents here. Location: Lac Abbé, Djibouti Lens used: 10-22mm f3.5-4.5
