I've had a couple people ask me the story with this shot. It was quite simple, really - I was turning around on this gravel road to park to do a little hike and didn't see the small culvert outflow ditch on the side of the road. It was hidden from view from the driver's seat on the far side of the car. Though it was only a couple/three mile-per-hour 'crash', this speed was enough to slide me down into it. As you can see, I was far enough in the ditch to tilt the balance point of my car forward, making the rear came up off the ground - this makes the incident look much more severe than it was. I could stand on my rear bumper and rock the car up and down, but couldn't get it out this way.
Fortunately, a helpful local came by not too long after this happened and gave me a quick tug out (that's my tow strap laid out behind in anticipation of him returning with his truck).
Save for a small amount of dirt shoved into my fog lamp, there was no damage at all from this little mishap.
Lens used: 17-55mm f2.8 ISFor those that are familiar with Mt. Hood Meadows, you know that the Blue lift isn't used too often, usually only when the parallel Mt. Hood Express (MEX) lift isn't runnable. This was one of those mornings when nearly everything was caked in a healthy layer of cocktail ice from a freezing rain event earlier in the night. MEX was frozen solid.
I had the job of digging to ease snow-creep pressure on towers #19-20 of Blue that morning and thus, when patrol was riding it up in the morning, found myself in perfect position to click a few shots of them as they passed by. The patrollers are (l to r) Jeni Harris and Gretchen Schwinn.
Despite the fast aperture of the lens I was using, I still found myself needing flash to get the shot.

Too bad the mid-day lighting washed out all the colors of the scene - oh, to have been there at dusk or dawn! A CP filter helped control the glare a bit, though. When post-processing this image, I found I had to spot heal out a number of small specks. Sensor dust? No! Flying insects - many of which plagued us while we tried to enjoy our time at the lake.
